This song is important to me.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a song hit me so hard the first time I heard it. certainly not on a rainy day at warped tour. When Story of the year played this song, I was immediately taken in and overwhelmed. I always knew it, but this song confirmed my feelings. These dudes got it.
The CD hadn’t come out yet, so I had no idea they were putting together what would be their best record ever. (commonly agreed upon among super fans) What I loved about this song, is that it is honest and unapologetic. They come in blazing. They were angry, and they had the right to be. listen to Live in the lou and page avenue side by side. that comparison makes the meaning of “stereo” crystal clear.
I only wish that Story’s next couple records had preserved the same creative integrity that was exhibited on In the Wake… It’s not the band’s fault, and I don’t blame them for taking the paths they chose, however, In the Wake of Determination will always be the standard I hold Story of the Year to. What I see happening with Greek Fire and Fuck Off And Dies proves that they are sticking to what they believe in. They may have been bought in the past, but as we look to the future, “Stereo” will lead them and they will not be sold.
